Barry Town Utd Women staged a dramtic late comeback in Treforest coming back from a 0-2 deficit with three late goals to send the three points back to Jenner Park.
This game was always going to be a potential banana skin for Barry with Pontypridd sitting rock bottom of the league but only three points behind Town who themselves have had a dfficult start to the season and currently managerless following the departure of Stevie McCarthy-Campbell last week.
Assistant Mananger, Tony Barnett stepped in to take the reigns for this fixture whilst the club currently seeks a permanent replacement, and although Barry started the game well, they found themselves behind on 29 minutes when a misplaced pass fell to the feet of Lili Angove who raced through and scored with a good finish.
Despite Barry's control of possession, they were struggling the convert into goals, denied by the woodwork and stubborn defending from the hosts.
The second hald followed a similar pattern and to add to Barry's woes, Pontypridd looked to have sealed all three points when Maddison Lloyd struck a fantastic effort into the top corner to double the Pontypridd lead with 9 minutes of normal time remaining.
Cue to comeback and impact from the Barry substitutes. Firstly, Beca Thomas got on the end of a Sienna Stone pass and placed the ball into the corner to reduce the deficit on 88 minutes. From the resultant kick-ff, Thomas then dispossessed the Pontypridd defence and went through to score with a smart finish to tie things up at 2-2 on 89 minutes. The home side were left stunned with their lead evaportated.
There was to be one last piece of drama and what a story it was. Into added time substitute Ava Coomer won the ball in midfield before finding Millie Breen, making her first team debut, who unleased a lofted shot that lobbed the goalkeeper and into the net to give Barry a 3-2 lead. The game had turned around in a crazy 6 minute spell.
The full time whistle went soon after, Barry recording a hugely valuable second win of the season.
