Cardiff Met 0-2 Barry Town Utd

A second half brace from Erin Murray saw Barry end the Adran Premier season with a 2-0 win away at Cardiff Met.

Barry Town Utd Women went into their final Adran Premier League game of the season looking to finish on a high following a positive season of progress at Jenner Park through the 2024-25 campaign.

In their way was a trip to face already relegated Cardiff Met who recorded their first win of the season the previous week in the reverse fixture at Jenner Park with a 2-0 victory.

Barry were keen to put that disappointment behind them and started this encounter on the front foot. The first half ended goalless at Cyncoed, but Barry were well on top and missed several golden opportunities to take the lead. Ellie Preece was a constant threat and was denied twice by some excellent goalkeeping from Charlotte Smith whilst Keira Harris and Ellie Gunney also went close for the Linnets.

Despite the lack of goals in the first half, Barry did control the majority of possession which eventially paid dividends at the match continued in similar fashion during the second half. Town finally got the breakthrough on 64 minutes as a great move found Lucy Attwood who beat her defender before delivering a pin-point cross for the arriving Erin Murray whose diving header found the net. Preece almost doubled the lead a minute later but her effort somehow went wide of the far post.

Ingird Aadland was the architect of Barry's second goal as she found space before hitting a long range shot which was parried by Smith, but Murray was on hand to slot home the rebound. A great day for Murray netting against her former club where she enjoyed great success in the ealrier part of her playing career.

Molly Arnesen in the Barry goal did make one fine save to deny Colleton but in the main, the Barry defence were rarely troubled throughout the 90 minutes.

The game ended 2-0 to Barry to leave the Town of 24 points from their 20 league matches, a record for the club since joining Tier 1 in the 2021-22 season and a sixth place finish also being a new record having had three successive seasons in seventh position.

It's been a season of real growth and we look forward now to planning ahead to the 2025-26 season.
