Town end season on a high with convincing away win.

Barry Town Utd Women went into their final match of the Genero Adran Premier season looking to finish their campaign in positive fashion having already secured top-flight status for a third consecutive season.

The Linnets travelled to Abergavenny and the Pen-Y-Pound Stadium looking to build on a positive result from the previous weekend following a draw against Plate winners Pontypridd Utd in Dafydd Williams first game in charge.

The visitors made two changes from the previous fixture with Chloe Jones and Phoenix Phillips coming into the starting line-up and it was Barry who started the game on the front foot.

The energetic Taite Trivett came close early on with a run down the right before a cross-come shot whistled inches over the top of the bar. Minutes later, Mackenzie Olden got on the end of a great Barry move and looked set to score but was denied by a great save from the 'Pennies' goalkeeper, Marnie Gingell.

The home side had moments of pressure, but were restricted to shots from distance with the defence well marshalled by Captain Lauren Harris.

With Barry continuing to press, it took until the 34th minute for the deadlock to be broken. A clever corner routine found Olden on the edge of the box and her initial shot was turned in by Delia Ebbin to give the visitors a deserved lead.

A second came soon after, and it turned out to be the pick of the day. Trivett picked up the ball just inside the Abergavenny half before going on a driving run through the defence before placing her shot into the corner to double the lead on 42 minutes. The Linnets went into the break with a deserved lead.

Going into the second period, Barry would have been conscious of the Phase 1 fixture back in September where they squandered a 2-0 lead before grabbing a late winner in a 3-2 victory. However, there was no such drama this time around as Barry all but wrapped up the points by the hour mark.

Holly Jenkins capped a fine individual performance with a lofted left footed effort from distance which looped into the net on 49 minutes, before Trivett grabbed her second with a well struck left foot shot which went in off the crossbar to make it 4-0.

The remaining period of the game saw both teams use their full allocation of substitutes and to their credit, Abergavenny continued to push for a consolation goal but Brennan was rarely troubled in the Barry goal.

The result means Barry end their season in 7th place in the Adran Premier and finish Phase 2 in a good form following a mixed season. The Linnets will now take a break before returning to pre-season in the summer.
