We are delighted to announce that for the first time, our Women’s section will be appointing a Club Captain.

I aim to continue to inspire the next generation, with over 240 girls participating at our club alone. With the season starting on Sunday, I hope to continue to build on our club philosophy at first team level throughout to grassroots age groups.

We are pleased to confirm that Lauren Harris will have this honour for the 2023-24 season where she has become an inspirational role model, from both her fellow peers and the young players within our thriving junior section.

Lauren has been a key player for the club from both her time as a junior as well as for the past four seasons as the Women’s first team captain. Her new role will see her play an active part in the club’s development within the women & girl’s section as we look to make further progress to our distinguished player pathway.

On the addition of a new Women’s club captain, Women’s manager Stevie McCarthy-Campbell commented, “From my very first meeting with Lauren, I could see straight away how much this club meant to her. Already in my short time here as manager, I can see how highly regarded she is by everybody, how much of a good role model to our younger players she is and how much she does both on and off the pitch.

After a conversation with her, we both agreed on her new role as club captain and that we would look to appoint a separate team captain to split the roles, responsibilities and workload throughout the team."

On the appointment, Lauren commented, “I’m really pleased to have been given the opportunity to be Club Captain of Barry Town United Women. Having captained the team for 4 seasons, I am pleased to hand over the armband to new leaders on the pitch and take on my new role. I aim to continue to inspire the next generation, with over 240 girls participating at our club alone. With the season starting on Sunday, I hope to continue to build on our club philosophy at first team level throughout to grassroots age groups.”
